Tennessee Server Permits

Our Server Permit Class is approved by the Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission. A Server Permit (On-Premise Permit) is required to serve liquor, wine, and high gravity beer at an establishment that holds an On-Premise Consumption License (Liquor-by-the Drink License). Server permits are valid for five (5) years from the date of issue.

Server Permit Class Information

Our Server Permit Class is a 3.5 hour class mandated by the state of Tennessee and is offered in English and Spanish. Each chapter of the class contains informational slides and videos. At the end of each chapter there are ten review questions to help prepare you for the final exam. After you complete all chapters, you will be ready to start your final exam. There are 50 questions, mostly multiple choice, with a few true or false. A passing score is 76% or above. The cost of the class is $34.00.

OVERVIEW OF STEPS TO OBTAIN YOUR SERVER PERMIT

STEP #1: Go to the TABC website and fill out the Server Permit Application. The cost is $20.00. You will be given a Regulatory Licensing and Permitting System (RLPS) number. You will need this number in order to take the Server Permit Class.
STEP #2: Click on Purchase Server Permit Class, complete your information, including your RLPS#, and pay for the class with a credit card or debit card. The cost of the Server Permit Class is $34.00.
You should now be in the Server Permit Class. You will have a practice exam at the end of each chapter. After you have completed all chapters, you will take a final exam of 50 questions. If you fail on your first try, the Server Permit Class will give you several chances to earn a passing score.

Click on the TABC Website button below. Set up an account, and complete the Server Permit Application. The wesite is not mobile friendly -- you may need to use a computer. Once you have completed the application and paid the application fee of $20.00, you will be given a RLPS number, for example, 21A-MPER-SER-12345. This number is required to register for the Server Permit Class.

Can I use my smartphone to take this class?
Yes, you will be able to use any mobile device or computer.
I have already had a Server Permit. How do I renew?
The state requires you to take a server permit class every five years, even if you currently have a server permit.
Why do I need to go to the state website before I take the class?
The TABC requires you to set up your state account, fill out your application, and pay the $20 application fee. They will do a background check. You will need the RLPS number, e.g. (23A-MPER-SER-0000) before you take the server permit class.
How long does it take to get my server permit?
Once you have completed and passed this course it will take about two (2) business days to get your server permit.
How do I receive my server permit? Will they mail it?
The TABC does not mail permits. You will need to go to the state website, click on RLPS, imput your login info, click on the "print my permit" icon, then click on your RLPS number, e.g. (23A-MPER-SER-00000).
What if I am not very good at using my phone or computer?
Our program is really easy to use -- everything is step by step. When taking the exam, our program will give you as many tries as you need to make a passing grade.
